SOCOM SITREP - 20121029

Google’s new #2!
I thought I’d start this week’s SITREP with some outstanding news I found out this morning.  According to the numbers, we had 812 page views yesterday (28 OCT 12).  This is significant because we only average 500 page views on any given day.  Some days we see 600 page views, but never 800.  So that caused me to do a little investigating as to why the sudden spike in our web traffic.  As it turns out, we are currently listed at #2 according to Google’s search engine.  What’s number one you might ask?  A Christian gaming website called TeamSOC.

The Numbers Don’t Lie
Interestingly enough, I checked with Google Analytics and it confirmed that moving back to Weebly was a wise choice.  Here is a breakdown of the numbers:

                                                                                                Visits

http://www.campuscults.net                                     10,387

http://soldiersofchrist.net                                          726

http://www.soldiersofchrist.us.com                         347

http://www.whatisacult.com                                     1,156

As you can see, Campus Cults is by far the most visited website.  I built this site for a friend of mine who lives in Nigeria.  I keep tabs on the tracking stats for him and I also use it to help advertise SOCOM.  Basically Campus Cults are Nigeria’s version of gangs in that country.  The majority of these gangs are occultic in nature.  The purpose of this particular website is to help lead people away from these gangs and into the arms of Jesus Christ.

These stats are from the last 30 days of activity. Notice that SoldiersofChrist.net has a lot more visits from people than SoldiersofChrist.us.com.  A difference of 379 hits!  This may not seem like a big deal, but I assure you it is.  We’re trying to spread the Gospel to the maximum amount of people we can, while at the same time utilizing a platform that is cost effective.  Weebly is not only more cost effective for SOCOM, but it also generates more traffic!  I think this should settle the debate on whether we should have moved back or not.

SOCOM on FACEBOOK
You may or may not be aware of this, but SOCOM is also on Facebook.  I’m looking for some help with this one.  I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a “Facebook” guy.  Call me old fashioned, but the whole social media craze hasn’t sparked an interest with me.  Is it wrong that I don’t care what so-n-so had for dinner last night?  Granted I may be exaggerating a bit, but I’m really only on Facebook for one purpose; and that is to help spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.  Other than that, I don’t personally use it.  I created the SOCOM Facebook page to help advertise our ministry and to get the word out.  The problem is that there is very little activity that goes on with that page.  I don’t foresee this changing if it is left up to me to run the day-to-day operations of the page since I never use Facebook.    I’m looking for one or two people who use Facebook regularly to act as moderators for the page.  All you will have to do is post on the page on a regular basis to help generate traffic and let people know that we are an active site.

Well, that’s all for now.  Have a blessed week.

Maranatha!

SOCOM SITREP - 20121015

5 MORE YEARS!
Great news SOCOM!  The SoldiersofChrist.net web domain has been renewed for 5 more years!  That means we have a permanent home for the SOCOM ministry until October of 2017.  Can I get an Amen!?!  I’m personally thrilled about this because it has always been an issue in years past.   But through it all, our Lord has always been faithful to get us renewed in a timely manner.  Before now I’ve only had enough funding to renew the domain a year at a time.  This will really help to free the ministry up for a while and allow us to concentrate on other aspects that I believe The Lord wants us to focus on.

SOCOM Shoutbox

A Shoutbox has now been added to the front page of the Command Center.  This way people can post random thoughts, or converse with others in real time.  Of course this is a double-edged sword.  I have tried this in the past and ended up having to take it down due to one particular individual using it as their personal soapbox to stand on.  Hopefully I won’t have to do that again and we can utilize it for what it is intended.

Rank Structure
Recently it has been brought to my attention about the rank structure within SOCOM and the concern for how it will be effectively used.  This should not be a concern to anyone, but I will do my best to explain how the promotion system works and have it posted for all to read.

PVT – SPC
These ranks are to be passed out at as we see fit.  The ranks of PVT – SPC are not really “promotions” at all, but merely “advancements”.  A Soldier in the SOCOM Army does not receive their first actual promotion until the rank of Corporal (for males) or Technician 5th Grade (for females).

While a SOCOM Soldier is the rank of PVT – SPC they will have very limited access to what they can do while on the Command Center.  One of the great aspects to using the Spruz website is its ability to control how deep of access you allow a person to have.  For example, I currently have “Super Administrator” access (level 9), CSM Cleverley has “Site Administrator” access (level 8), and SSG ArchAngel has mid-level access (level 5).  This is not to say that I trust one person over the other, this is simply set up by rank level.  As for the ranks of PVT through SPC, their access level will remain at level 1 until their first promotion.  Upon a Soldier’s first promotion, they will be upgraded to access level 3 and so on from there.

I hope this sets some minds at ease on the seemingly “quick” advancements for some individuals in the ranks of PVT – SPC.  In truth, there is virtually no difference in access level on the Command Center until an individual receives their first promotion.

Now with that said, we as leaders need to ensure we are doing our part according to the rank we hold.  I need to do a better job informing you as an officer, and you need to make sure you are reaching out to those ranks below you.  That is not to say you are not already doing this, I’m just reiterating what all of our jobs entail.

Communication
I recently confirmed to our Command Sergeant Major in a memo that was sent out yesterday that I believe we do have a communication problem among the ranks.  This is not a quick fix by any means and can’t be resolved overnight.  I am personally guilty of not communicating on a regular basis.  This is something I’m personally working on and hope to change.  I ask for every Soldier’s help in this matter.  Communication starts with you and me.  Take a moment this week and send out a greeting to a fellow Soldier on the Command Center.  Just say hi.  Send out a friend request if you haven’t already done so.  Invite them to one of the groups on the Command Center.  These are merely suggestions to help generate better communication among the ranks.

Well, until next time; Stay blessed.

Maranatha!
