SOCOM Service Paths
Purpose
The selection of a service path upon enlistment or commissioning to socom accomplishes several things: 1) it provides avenues of growth in Christ and the ministry, 2) it encourages immediate support and participation in the ministry, and 3) provides personal character development where soldiers learn the principles of discipleship and leadership.
Process
1. Upon initial enrollment into socom, each soldier will select one of the following: the enlisted, nco or officer service path.
2. Once approved by the cg and assigned their initial rank within one of the service paths, enlisted/nco soldiers will select an mos, and officers will select a branch.
3. The command staff will review the soldiers qualifications for their selected field, and the cg will grant final approval. The Command Chaplain will make the final selection for any chaplain’s assistant positions (56M) in conjunction with the approval of the CG.
4. Upon final approval, the soldier will begin working on the mos/branch requirements. During training, each soldier will be required to check-in weekly with the dcsm who will provide training oversight over both officers and enlisted.
5. Upon completion of training, soldiers will be fully trained to exercise the duties of their mos/branch. Enlisted soldiers will be assigned to an officer of the appropriate branch. If there is no branch officer, they will obtain direct orders from the DCSM. Officers will gain enlisted soldiers under their branch. If there are no enlisted assigned, the branch officer will be responsible to complete all missions as directed by the CG or his designee, the adc.
6. As the ministry grows, the command structure will expand and assignments will expand accordingly. However, the mos and branch selections will be limited to those currently established, until changed by the CG.
7. The command chaplain will serve as an advisor to the CG and continuously evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of the program.
8. Promotions will be granted with the appropriate tig (time in grade) and satisfactory participation and performance at the current level. Evaluation boards will be held bi-annually in January and July and any eligible soldier can apply for promotion during those periods.
9. There are requirements that must be met for each mos/branch selection. Why requirements? The Bible says in 2 Tim 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” God asks us to come unto Him as we are; however, we are expected to not always remain babes in Christ, but to increase our knowledge and effectiveness as Christians. By having basic requirements for service, we set a standard for excellence in all that we do for Christ and encourage everyone to strive for more knowledge and revelation through Christ.
